Elmhirst’s Resort Presents “The Farm To Table – 295 Block Party”
A Slow Food Harvest Party celebrating Canada 150+ with traditional cooking techniques using locally cultivated food from the 295 telephone exchange area.
We are excited to announce the details of the “295 Block Party”, a special event to be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017, in honour of Canada 150 and the local harvest. Elmhirst’s Resort has partnered with Otonabee Meat Packers, Harley Farms and Chick-A-Biddy Acres to present this Farm To Table event showcasing several traditional outdoor cooking techniques in homage to the agricultural history of the 295 telephone exchange area.
Elmhirst’s Own was created a decade ago as a means to identify the fruits, vegetables and meats grown and raised on the resort’s farm. Angus beef, turkey, duck, honey, apples, herbs, flowers, and a variety of heritage tomatoes, amongst many other vegetables, are at the heart of the restaurants’ dishes crafted for guests year-round.
“We are proud of our agricultural roots and the farming community that has existed in the 295 area since this part of Rice Lake and Peterborough County was settled in the late 1800’s,” says Greg Elmhirst, General Manager. “This event is about bringing the community together for a few hours of food, fun and entertainment during the harvest season.”
Chefs will be preparing a spit roasted pig from Otonabee Meat Packers, Elmhirst’s Own smoked beef brisket, lamb from Harley Farms cooked over an open flame and Chick-a-Biddy Acres vegetables cooked underground. For Chef Seth Labonte, “There’s something about being outdoors on an autumn afternoon, enjoying the smoky scents of food cooking on an open flame, surrounded by friends and foodies that is dear to my heart.” Local craft brews and select VQA wines will also be showcased, and are included in the ticket price. Fred Stillman will be providing live musical entertainment. The 295 Block Party begins at 3 p.m. and runs until dusk.
Tickets for this special event are $100 (incl. HST) and seating is limited. To purchase tickets call Elmhirst’s Resort at 705-295-4591. For more information about this event visit: https://www.elmhirst.ca/295-block-party or search #295BlockParty.
