New Year’s Eve with Megalomaniac
The New Year’s Eve 2022 Celebration at Elmhirst’s Resort was presented in partnership with Megalomaniac Wine of Vineland, Ontario. The road to bringing guests, entertainers, and our devoted team of foodservice makers this year was a long one with many turns, but turned out to be one of our most unique events ever.
For example, being indoors for the entire experience would not have the same appeal as it would historically. Instead, the plan to have the reception outdoors with entertainment, dessert and fireworks by the Boardwalk was developed early on. Once we had a weather forecast with moderate conditions we had everything we needed.
Guests were picked up by a wagon (pulled by an antique McCormick tractor and driven by Peter Elmhirst) and delivered to the outdoor reception. They were greeted with a spread of artisan homemade potato chips, house smoked salmon and house made pickled vegetables. Megalomaniac’s traditional method “Bubblehead” Blanc de Blanc made the perfect pairing, and a great start to the evening. Roaring campfires and entertainment from Cristopher Culgin and Lotus Wight kept the celebrants warm.
The celebration then moved indoors to our spacious restaurant and event space. Following a welcome from Greg Elmhirst, guests were guided by Chef Jeff Curtis and John Howard, founder of Megalomaniac Wine, through a delicious 3 course menu with wine pairings.

Chris and Lotus, ever the intrepid troubadours, entertained with a mix of folk classics and original compositions throughout the evening.
The finale took place outside by the lakefront Boardwalk. Guests enjoyed a special concoction called the “Cold Hearted Personality”, a specialty of Megalomaniac Wine featuring their “Cold Hearted” Riesling Ice Wine and “Sparkling Personality” Sparkling Riesling. There was also an extra sweet treat to round out the evening: make your own s’mores with house-made Armagnac infused marshmallows. Resident pyrotechnician and “Jack of All Trades” Steve Elmhirst provided the grande finale when he launched a fireworks show from the lake.
Our goal was to provide a memorable evening no matter the circumstances and we were thrilled with the results. We made some joy in 2021, and we wish everyone a great 2022. We also want to express our gratitude to our partners in presenting this experience, our amazing team for a great delivery, and most of all the guests who joined us because it couldn’t happen without them.
