The Keene Summer BBQ is back!
The first festival since 2019, and we couldn’t wait to be there and participate. This years 2022 festival took place at the Lang soccer field on Saturday August 27. This festival is all about community – Live music, open BBQ competition and a licenced area featuring local Rice Lake Cider. Proceeds from the Festival went to the Canadian Mental Health Organization and Keene Minor Hockey.
Our own Chef Jeff was there to lead the team. (Check out his videos below.) According to Jeff : “It was an incredible day and community event and a celebration of BBQ culture in Keene and the surrounding areas. The teams were a fun mix of different professionals, amateurs and enthusiasts, everyone bringing the best they had to offer. We represented ourselves as best as we could, we brought Beef and Turkey raised on our property and pork bought from our local butcher and abbatoir Otonabee Meats. We use a simple and classic off set fire box smoker, built by Ryan Sloan in Keene. All the wood we use was Apple and Maple, grown, cut and aged on the beautiful Elmhirst’s Resort property on the shore of Rice lake. We focused hard on the simple details and lovingly tended to our meat and fire all night long. That love, from the animals, to the wood, to the smoke, will always make the best food. Clearly the judges felt the same. It is a great honour to win against such esteemed BBQ masters. Can’t wait for next year.”
