Tenth Anniversary Kite Weekend

Our 10th annual Snowkite Weekend blew in Saturday to fair conditions; +4C temperatures, 7 inches of hard ice with a 1 inch layer of soft stuff on top that skis could bite into. We woke up to a 15 kph wind, enabling successful trainer kite lessons. We made some new riders which is what the message of the weekend has always been about.

During our Steam Whistle Pilsner happy hour we awarded our Poker Run winners- Grand prize, a 2 metre Ocean Rodeo trainer ‘React’ kite complete with bar, lines, & pump. Second prize an incredible $500 off a new Ocean Rodeo kite. Not to mention, some great beer!

Sunday morning proved to be an epic day for learning & riding. A steady 20 kph wind from the north east. Again, our invested participants were out in force, and even our volunteer Kite Instructors were able to enjoy a ride when lessons were done.

Thank you to Ocean Rodeo Kites & SteamWhistle Breweries for 10 years of generous sponsorship & prizes. What started as the brainchild of Steve Elmhirst ‘s local kiting group 10 years ago has become a mainstay and something to look forward to every January.
We thank our volunteers for giving their time to share the stoke!
