Goodbye June and Julia
June 30, 2011 · 1 Comment

Just in time to celebrate Canada Day our new water playground is on the beach and ready for action…..
Julia (Guest Services) left us today, with Baby Bullet gift in tow, to begin her maternity leave. She is expecting any moment and we know it’s a boy. I hope she isn’t thinking this is a vacation! In her absence Jacqui will be co-ordinating weddings.
Good Luck Julia – we’ll miss you.
Can it possibly be the end of June already? July has 5 weekends – a phenomena, they say – one more weekend to getaway to the cottage…..see you soon!
Happy Ever After….

4rth Line Theatre

Every summer I await the 4rth Line Theatre line-up to see what’s offered – it’s always a treat to catch a good story, performed outdoors, just before dusk. Tonight I was rewarded with a comedy called The Berlin Blues – a great night out! You must see it! I’ve copied the roster for the season here for you so you can choose…both are amazing!
The Berlin Blues
By Drew Hayden Taylor Directed by Kim Blackwell Musical Direction and Original Composition by Justin Hiscox
BUMPER CANOES! LASER BEAM DREAM CATCHERS! Dances With Wolves: The Musical! They’re all part of the zany plan German developers hatch to build the world’s largest Native theme park – ‘Ojibway World’. Set in an Ontario First Nation’s community, this funny and thought-provoking play offers a human take on the pros and cons of change and just how much one can or should give up to prosper.
“Intended as a comic cautionary tale about commercial exploitation of indigenous cultures, The Berlin Blues draws its riffs with a blunt-tipped felt marker.”
- David C. Nichols, LA Times
JUNE 28 – JULY 23
The Cavan Blazers
By Robert Winslow Directed by Robert Winslow Musical Direction and Original Composition by Justin Hiscox
A GRITTY, INTENSE PLAY that has the audience on the edge of its seat from start to finish. This drama chronicles the religious conflict between Catholic and Protestant settlers in Cavan Township in the early to mid-nineteenth century. Violence erupts when a Protestant vigilante gang known as the Cavan Blazers tries to stop a Catholic settlement from being established.
“With its strong theme and communal energy, The Cavan Blazers gives a rare sense that the artists and audience share the goal of making this story matter.”
- Liam Lacey, The Globe and Mail
AUGUST 2 – 27
Barnyard Harmony

The change of pastures brought the horses into the lower field, where the chickens have been hanging out. The cows ignored the hens but the horses are curious and have been checking out the henhouse, dumping the water and generally acting like a bad gang……that was Saturday (the horses seemed intimidated when challenged by the chickens) – the girls have worn them down and now they are bored with their feathered squawking neighbours. Life is good in the barnyard.
If you were here you would have been one of the guests out on the water, tubing and waterskiing; horseback riding; swimming; cycling; walking the trails; dining; sweating out in Zumba class…….or perhaps just enjoying the day by the pool. What did you do today?

Does this outfit make my butt look big? Who knew that ducks are just like people…clearly Missy did not get the right quack….Buddy took off and she was left alone on the dock. Well, that’s what it looked like from my vantage point!
Last week of June – have you entered your treasure in the Vintage Classic taking place July 03? Enjoy Sunday Brunch and tour the classics…..$10 from every Brunch sold will be donated to the Canadian Canoe Museum. Join us!
Congratulations to the intrepid riders who successfully completed the Mad Bastard Scooter Rally this weekend….riding 726 km in less than the 16 hours alloted on their 50 cc machines. Here’s Cowgirl Debbie Curle, on her themed scooter (that’s just what you do!) – Brad Curle and Peter Elmhirst also completed the rally. Well done!
Heron Strut

The heron strut is not seen by those who sleep in or go to bed early……but if you catch it you won’t be able to stop yourself humming and strutting your stuff a la John Travolta. Trust me on this one!
The Graduate

Congratulations Henry! It was graduation day at The Hills Academy, north of Toronto, where Henry attends school and plays lacrosse. Celebrating graduation with his family (Greg, Martina, Ryder and Nadiya Elmhirst) in the Wild Blue Yonder made me realize how much he has grown up – his younger siblings are happy to have him home – as we all are! Although he will be concentrating on lacrosse throughout the summer he will also be working at the Resort. Welcome back!
I have given up on the weather forecasters…..in our little corner of paradise we are experiencing fine summer weather. July would be a great time for you to check out the waterfront, the fishing, the great outdoors and practising doing nothing at all! Your cottage awaits……..
Stay ‘n Play – Bass Season Opens
June 23, 2011 · Leave a Comment
If you need a getaway and you love golf….call us for the Stay ‘n Play Package which includes golf at Bellmere Winds, next door. Golf games with cart, overnight and breakfast….$189 per person. After the game, relax at The Spa or on The Patio. So close, so appealing, so easy to book…….I could have added a golf photo but I thought our entrance looked so inviting I chose to welcome you to the front door instead.
Bass season opens this weekend….this is the lake for bass(fine sporty fish, great tasting). It’s not too late to get your grandson, daughter or best bud booked in for a few days of fishing.
The beach area will amaze you – after the spring storms we had some serious erosion on the waterfront……the gas tank is gone and the area is now truly a comfortable play area. Victoria took her swimming class to the beach today instead of the outdoor pool – the squeals of delight gave me a positive feeling.
Ride the World

Marion and Aurel, riding the world on their KTM 990 motorcycle, stopped by for a visit today. Peter met Aurel on a Namibian road near the Tropic of Capricorn in Africa – we have followed their blog as they travelled through South Africa, across South America and North America to Canada – the couple will now explore mainland USA and Alaska, flying to Thailand to complete the journey home to France. Read the highlights of their journey and admire their photos on www.ride-the-world.net We hope to follow their route through South America on motorcycles so the conversation has been animated at best! Isn’t is wonderful that you can meet people around the world and connect here at Elmhirst’s Resort!
Let Sleeping Dogs Fly
June 21, 2011 · 1 Comment
Hunter the dog loves to fly – she gets her best naps when in the air. If Peter takes off without her she will sulk near the seaplane base Unlike her owners, she is still able to leap into the plane without assistance. At first glance you might think the Canadian Air Supplement (which lists all the airports in Canada) is not an interesting read.
School is almost out – I wonder if these swans know they will soon be free. More and more swans have been spotted in our area….I guess I’ll have to brush up on my poetry as they seem to inspire bards. Oh, to see a swan in the setting sun…….
Cottages are available for July – shorter stays for those who just can’t plan more than a few days away. Surprise the family with a lakeside vacation – add meals and enjoy the royal treatment.
