DeHaviland Dudes fly-in with their Slowbirds aircraft, creating interest and conversation. The paint job is lovely and looks very much like the acrobatic Snowbirds.
The first fall colours are peeking through so get out to the country and enjoy a sightseeing flight or boat trip around the lake.

Celebrations

Scott Wood and his buddies cycled to the Resort, where they were met by friends eager to celebrate his 40th birthday. A perfect segue to the October Kawartha Fall Colour Tour.
Wilma and Paul Anderson celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary tonight….Wilma was given a hospital pass but had to return before midnight…I didn’t see a pumpkin coach but we all had cake! Congratulations!
Hardly recognized the staff attending as they were all dressed up and ready to party, as you can see!
Meanwhile, back at the Resort – a wonderful wedding was being celebrated – Congratulations to Kate and Mark Biasiolli.
Niagara Wine Tour
August 27, 2010 · Leave a Comment
Niagara wine tasting and touring with the Middleton’s and the English’s was a great way to spend a Friday. Our host, John Howard of Megalomaniac – John Howard Cellars of Distinction, had offered the day as an auction item at the last Winemakers Dinner in June. The Middletons invited us to join them for a fun filled and most enjoyable day! There was lots of wine tasting – from bottles to barrels, good discussion, great food and much laughter….the perfect ingredients for a great day. Thanks to all!
Mennonite Country

Just back from a reunion in St Jacobs with my Spa Ladies. My apologies for not posting something but between eating, shopping and beachcombing I just didn’t have a minute to send news. We travelled to the small Mennonite community of St Jacobs (north of Waterloo, Ontario) for some culture and shopping at the Farmers Market and on Main Street. Very close to Stratford and the Shakespeare Festival – you could easily spend a few days in this area. Photos of horse & buggy and marketplace – compliments local tourist info.
We also went beachcombing on the south shore of Lake Ontario – the white sand beach was filled with walkers, runners, frisbee throwers and sun worshippers. With the Burlington Skyway as a backdrop and the skyline of Toronto across the water it was a nice surprise. As I returned to the Resort I was hopeful that the Wild Womens Weekend in November would provide as much fun for the ladies as we just had. Thanks Ya Ya’s. BTW we saw Eat Pray Love and naturally, loved it…..a must see for you girls!
News from South Africa – our motorcycles have arrived safely – they have been unloaded and are ready for the adventure team to arrive and start the expedition Sept 11.

Dubai or not Dubai
August 20, 2010 · Leave a Comment
When in Canada where do the discerning folks from Dubai vacation? Why, at Elmhirst’s Resort on Rice Lake, naturally. Horseback riding, fishing, watersports, free helicopter parking, The Spa and of course, fine dining, seem to meet their needs nicely. As Wilma would say – arrive a guest; depart a friend.
Don’t forget to visit the Wild Blue Yonder on a Friday night and say hello to the Supper Club (local characters gather for good food and chatter) – you never know who will be here, but you can be guaranteed interesting converstaion.
Our first group of Stay ‘n Play Golfers are in and enjoying Bellmere Winds next door…….at $169 per person it’s a great value package…..need one more golf getaway? This is it! Call 1-800-461-1940
Sawing Logs
August 19, 2010 · Leave a Comment
Ron Pellerine saws pine logs at the sawmill on the Resort. Last week the pine was felled in the woods on property. Greg Comtois carefully piles the lumber – the boards are 1″ x 8 ” wide (between 12′ and 18′ long). Peter’s dad Arthur planted the pine as a teenager (working with his father) - hoping to have lumber for future building. His vision is coming to fruition at last – the lumber is drying for the renovations in the Hearthside Room this November. How interesting that generations will be involved in the new look of the dining room!
The family that digs together stays together! Volleyball fiends on the court enjoying another game. These guys are good!
Goodbye My Friend
August 18, 2010 · Leave a Comment
Goodbye to Roy Legassicke, our official Ambassador, who passed away yesterday. Roy, in his 90′s, was an amazing human being – always welcoming guests in the lobby, at Lakeside Lunch and at the pool. He was forever bringing us shortbread cookies, treats for Hunter and wonderful memorabilia for the Wild Blue Yonder. Roy always had a smile and a story – we will miss him dearly! Roy loved flying, the Resort and his lovely wife Lucy as well as his family. If you remember Roy greeting you in the lobby, give a silent wink – he’d like that! Funeral services will be held on Friday in Peterborough at Nesbitt’s Funeral Home.
What a day we had – a fiber optic cable was severed early morning (somewhere in the county) resulting in a full work day without phone, television or internet…..imagine being without the essentials of life for several hours and you can understand why it was a stressful day! All was right with the world by 3:38 pm so if you couldn’t reach us please note we could not reach you either!
